How To Play Donkey Kong 64 On Switch

Donkey Kong 64 Switch is a 3D action-adventure platformer game developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It is a remake/reboot of the 1999 Nintendo 64 game Donkey Kong 64, bearing some new features on its storyline, gameplay, and graphics. Unlike in Donkey Kong 64, Tiny Kong , Lanky Kong and Chunky Kong are no longer playable characters as they are all kidnapped in Hideout Helm alongside Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong, instead Donkey Kong ,Diddy Kong and Cranky Kong are the three playable characters that the player uses throughout the game, alongside Funky Kong as a special guide character.

Story

Gameplay

As in Donkey Kong 64, the game is a 3D collectathon where the player controls one of the four available Kongs in open and vast levels similar to those found in Super Mario 64. Their objective in every level is to obtain Golden Bananas among other collectibles. However unlike the original game, the three main charatcers are available from the start while Funky Kong is only a playable character in easy mode. Switching charatcers is also a lot easier and faster as Tag Barrels from the original game are gone and the player can go to the pause menu and switch out any charatcer they choose.

As in the preceeding version, the Kongs are allowed to use and reload weapons of mass destruction, these weapons can be used as power ups to attack enemies, hit certain switches and so on. However since Funky is now a playable character, they are now found in crates instead of being bought at shops. Also like on the N64 game, the Kongs can find Wrinkly Doors are found in certain parts of the levels (excluding Hideout Helm). As the name suggests, Wrinkly Kong will come out of each door if a Kong approaches it and give the Kong advice on one of their Golden Bananas hidden in each level. The doors are color coded for each Kong; yellow for Donkey Kong, red for Diddy Kong, grey for Cranky Kong and light blue for Funky Kong.

Name	Description
Donkey Kong	He's the only ape who still cares enough to wear a tie. DK may not be the most powerful Kong - or the quickest - but he applies a strong blue-collar work ethic to the business of KremlingCrushing. Using his Coconut Shotgun, he can shoot coconuts to stun bosses.
Diddy Kong	You'll probably recognize his familiar furry mug from past adventures. A mere bantamweight in bulk, this courageous chimp is the heavyweight champion of hard-core attitude. His jetpack allows him to hover in midair and get speed boosts underwater, though he cannot defeat enemies this way. His Peanut Popgun can be used to shoot and stun or distract enemies for a brief moment.
Cranky Kong	The Kong that originally fought against a Plumber... well... so he claims. He can use his cane to bounce around and avoid getting harmed by spikes. Also with his cane, he can whack enemies underwater.
Funky Kong	The coolest Kong on the island who runs the Funky's Fly 'n' Buy shop. Deciding to join the adventure, he acts as a playbale character in Funky Mode. He can double jump and hover through the use of his surfboard, can perform infinite rolls and underwater corkscrews, have infinite time underwater, and stand on spikes without taking damage.

Animal Buddies

Name	Description
Rambi the Rhino	Rambi is one of the five rideable animals. He can use his strong horn to smash crates, attack enemies, and break huts and wooden walls depicting his face. Rambi's Animal Crate appears in Jungle Japes.
Enguarde the Swordfish	Enguarde can use his pointy bill to smash open treasure chests and reveal hidden items. Enguarde appears in Coral Capers and Gloomy Galleon.
Expresso the Ostrich	Expresso has the ability to dash through areas at a fast pace because of his sneakers. He can also glide through the air temporarily. He appears in Angry Aztec and Fungi Forest
Winky the Frog	Winky can defeat most enemies by jumping on them, some being ones that the monkeys cannot defeat by themselves, such as Zingers. Winky also jumps very high, providing access to certain Bonus Levels and hidden areas. Winky appears in Frantic Factory and Ice Age Alley.
Squawks the Parrot	Squawks not only aids the Kongs giving them advice in certain areas, but he can be used to fly in certain parts of a level that have a lot of large gaps in the terrain. He appears in all the levels except for Ice Age Alley, Gloomy Galleon and Hideout Helem.
