NBA 2K22

NBA 2K22 pushes the limits on game action with the most authentic basketball experience to date. Visual Concepts once again teamed with Technicolor Games, who worked closely with the 2K team on both animation and assets. With Dynamixyz' Performer Multi-View 3D face tracking newly incorporated into its pipeline, Technicolor Games delivered ultra-realistic facial animation. The team also delivered high-quality MoCap body work for Cinematic Cut scenes and in-game animations. Upgraded workflows for asset creation included a modular process for creating city buildings. Assets such as stanchions required detailed sculpting for closeup shots In-game and in trailers. Other highlights included building court floors and creating go-karts for "my career." With NBA 2K22, anyone can be the next Michael Jordan!

NHL 22

Technicolor Games' rich, collaborative experience working with Electronic Arts includes 12 years on EA's NHL, where they specialize in creating Character Heads and Player Equipment, most recently for NHL 22. Traditional heads require pro-level sculpting skill, knowledge of facial anatomy, and a good grasp on character texturing – challenges that the Games team of artists are well-equipped to handle. On the Player Equipment side, the team created Helmets, Player and Goalie Sticks, Goalie Sets, and Uniforms – bringing the total to 277 assets created for NHL22. This year, the team worked with an updated pipeline with the implementation of Frostbite – and completely migrated to a new workflow with software including Substance Painter, Substance Designer and Illustrator. Not only has the quality scaled up enormously, but the new Frostbite engine delivers a true next-gen hockey experience in NHL 22.

FIFA 22

For FIFA 22, the Technicolor Games team created a total of 4672 assets with long-time collaborator EA. The Character team created Player Heads and Clothing with increased photorealism in-game, most notably with the hair. All assets were integrated into the Frostbite engine and tested before publishing to EA – all while pushing the overall quality technically and aesthetically.

On the Environment front, the Games team worked on Stadiums, Story Mode Assets, Trophies, Mascots, Accessories, and Kits. In addition to in-depth, in-engine knowledge – enabling them to complete tasks from end-to-end – the team also enjoyed new opportunities such as "funky" unconventional designs for Trophy creation and a Volta stadium based on futuristic design concepts.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition

Counting themselves among the devoted fanbase, the Technicolor Games Realtime Lighting and FX teams were thrilled to bring their talents to Mass Effect Legendary Edition – the 4K Ultra HD remaster of the epic sci-fi space trilogy from EA Bioware. The team worked in game and in cinematics – on approximately 470 lighting scenarios and 300 FX assets – with many existing effects remastered using upgraded textures, materials and other FX parameters. Done entirely in Unreal Engine, the scope of work included exterior and interior level lighting; character lighting in levels; and cinematic lighting. On the VFX side, work included environmental and character impacts, including bullet and missile impacts – from vehicle explosions to gooey alien explosions – and everything from muzzle flashes and tracers to solar flares and other atmospheric effects, as well as holograms and various sci-fi effects.

With our team of talented artists, we've partnered with multiple development studios, effectively expanding their own art teams.  Our Art Directors, who oversee all our games projects, will oversee these designs from concept to in-engine execution.

Motion capture cleanup and re-targeting

Our motion capture animation team has worked on everything from highly complex in-game animations, high end cinematic content, to Faceware retargeting and everything in between. We can supply experienced shoot Supervision/Direction, as well as all of our animation services. Working with Motionbuilder and Maya (and Max), our team offer experienced scalability to any mocap based production.

Keyframe animation

Keyframe animation has been at the core of our studio since its inception; we win Emmys for our animation!  We cast our talented animators based on their skills and passions, rather than defining them as 'games animators' or 'tv animators', so when a new project comes in, we ensure we crew it up with the most relevant, talented highly suited animators to suit its needs. Working on both AAA and mobile titles, our keyframers have breathed life into multiple award winning games.

Technicolor's asset group is an industry leading powerhouse of skilled environment, hard surface, organic, and character artists. We remain resolutely pipeline agnostic, seamlessly dropping into our partners' pipelines and toolsets.   At any time we could be working in Unreal, Unity and several proprietary engines, taking assets through the pipe from concept to level completion. Our skilled Substance trained surfacing artists create next generation PBR assets for top industry clients. Our team includes many highly talented sculptors, producing characters, creatures, as well as working on blend shapes and photo real heads.

We offer support and integrated pipelines for multiple game engines. We currently work with four proprietary AAA engines as well as Unreal 4 and Unity. Our robust technical art team partner with our clients to ensure tools and processes are in sync, and our artists are able to work effectively. Our engine involvement ranges from full multiplayer level construction, destruction, down to asset import & testing.
